Music Is My Savior

Every time I hear Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot" anthem, I can't help but think about what M.I.M.S. stands for : "Music Is My Savior"... Not the most original stuff ever, but I still like it. And I really feel him on this one. People can't even begin to realize, but music is such a major part of my life... That's what keeps me going when shit happens, or give me a way out when I'm not in the mood.

Anyway, back to the picture... It all started almost a year ago when I was bored, waiting in the rain and the cold for my bus, with all my stuff that I carried all day long walking around in Paris. I shot a picture of myself that you may remember from a previous post.... I did it randomly but it turned out to be a pic I really liked, and that my friends at the Wide-Eyed Crew liked enough too, to select it for our first WEC exhibit. That was very unexpected but a pleasant surprise, and I subsequently found out that my other friends also liked it. So I showed some more, and here I am, shooting pictures of myself at home...

I know it's probably gonna look like I'm obsessed with myself, but it's just that right now, I'm in the middle of one of those phases where I'm reflecting a lot on myself and the people surrounding me, or what's happening around. As a matter of fact, these pictures are simply the best and most authentic testament I could produce to illustrate my current state of mind. Sure, I could go out and shoot buildings, concrete, walls, I'd really enjoy it and that would be ME too, but this is just closer to reality... Lately I've spent quite some time thinking to random and more important things, while listening to some music, and at the same time, wondering what it looked like as seen from the outside... So I'd just grab the camera, set up the self-timer, and shoot...

Friendly game of .... What the hell is that game anyway ? || 2009 Cali Trip

We were walking in a park in San Francisco, and we ended up in a middle of what seemed to be some sort of university tournament, with at least a dozen of different teams donning their university's colors, and playing some kind of base-ball game, only with people kicking a soccer ball instead of batting the base-ball... Anyway the atmosphere was very relaxed, people seemed to really enjoy the beautiful afternoon, and it reminded me how much I would have liked to study in the U.S.... This will definitely be one of my biggest regrets in life, not to be able to experience that. Now I can only hope I'll get the chance to go there for work for a couple years or so, even though it's not gonna be the same !

R.I.P. || 2009 Cali Trip

There are 2 things I've always wanted to see in the U.S. : military cemetaries with all those white graves perfectly aligned - in a military way actually - and big ass / all wood and warm, cosy lighted college libraries (yeah the kind of libraries cops used to go seek informations in the pre-digital era of thriller movies !). Well there are probably more than 2, but these are the ones I'm thinking of, off the top of my head right now, plus it wouldn't sound nearly as good if I said I just did one of 134 things I want to do ;)

Anyway, I went to the NYC public library, the LA library, and basically every library I see, but I've yet to find that one library... The cemetary is now off of my todo list though, as this was exactly what I had in mind....

Y || 2009 Cali Trip

There's the New York Cityscape as seen from the Empire State Building, Paris from the Eiffel Tower or La Defense, and many more much more impressive, but viewing San Francisco from above was still delightful. Just love it, it gives you a totally different take on the streets, the districts and everything !

Look Up ! || 2009 Cali Trip

Well, actually I was going to entitle this one after the song "Fix Up, Look Sharp" (from the soundtrack for RIZE, the movie), because I though it would suit it pretty well, even though it doesn't quite refer to the same kind of stuff, but I doubt many people would get it.... Rightfully so ?

Not Tonight

We were hurrying to try and reach the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge entrance to catch the sunset, but obviously it was too late, so we decided to stop there and reschedule it to the next day, so that we could cross the bridge and see it from the other side as well, with a view on San Francisco.

Anyway, that doesn't mean I shouldn't take some pics, and I was very pleased with this one... Love the sky, and the sidewalk in the foreground...

Escape for the mind, not for the body... || 2009 Cali Trip

I thought very hard, but couldn't come up with a decent title for this picture...
So let's just say that even though the subject should make you feel trapped, it has a completely different effect on me. It just makes me want to stop whatever I'm doing, go out and contemplate the unexpected beauties that surround us.

DPT || 2009 Cali Trip

Loved the colors on the sidewalks' kerbs of San Fran !
They are painted with vivid colors to indicate wether we can park, and why (firefighter only, disabled only, ...).  We spotted green, white, yellow, red, and blue ones, but I won't bother you with a pic of each of those ;) Well, not now at least !

Oh and by the way, for those wondering, DPT stands for "Departement of Public Transportation"... Just so you know...

I'm going, going... back, back... to Cali, Cali ! || 2009 Cali Trip

Well, actually, it was my first time ever, but I couldn't resist to borrow BIG's song to make it the soundtrack to that picture ;)

Now that I'm back at it, I'll try and post some pics from my summer trip, hopefully one each day.
Stay tuned !

The Wide-Eyed Crew is on display !

I don't think I even mentionned it here, but I'm part of a photographic crew that we've created a year ago. During the whole month of November, the Wide-Eyed Crew is on display at the French K-Wa bar, in Paris, and yesterday was the official opening party.

For more info, check out http://wideeyedcrew.blogspot.com/2009/10/wec-first-photographic-exhibition.html, and browse the blog and/or the flickr (www.flickr.com/wideeyedcrew). If you're in Paris, go give it a look !

Enjoyment for Depressed People

Can't help but wonder wether people actually have had fun on that big, lonely wheel or if depressed people were the most frequent customers, taking a ride in hope of clearing their heavy minds....
